Hack Manchester Winners
This was our sixth year sponsoring Hack Manchester and boy was it a good one! The enthusiasm, dedication and creativity that we saw totally blew us away.
The most bizarre use of ClockworkSMS!
It definitely got everyone asking, “Is that bizarre enough?!” We encouraged entrants to be as idiotic, absurd, nonsensical and as wacky as possible. They didn’t disappoint.
We were pleased to see a lot of teams enter our challenge but it did make judging a lot trickier than we anticipated. A huge thank you and a massive round of applause to all the teams who took part and worked so hard on their bizarre uses of ClockworkSMS.

Here are our runners-up, their videos and why we loved them so much…
Using text messages to compose music isn’t something we’ve ever seen before. Text Tutti is the app which enables you to arrange notes, create chords and set the tempo. Who doesn’t love a bit of Rick Astley?!
This team really amused us with their offbeat idea of creating a SatNav service via text message. Perfect for those people who walk at exactly 3 mph and don’t have a smart phone! We went out for a wander around the streets of Manchester and found our way perfectly using this service.
We loved how much attitude Penelope the plant had. She sent SMS to tell her owners if she was too hot, too cold, if the house was being burgled or sometimes to pass on a random fact. Brilliantly bonkers! Team Green Coders used a huge amount of varying technology to enable Penelope to communicate. She even had her own app which allowed her owners to switch on a fan to cool her down. Lucky girl!
We were so impressed by all of the incredible ideas this year, the standard was so high.
Well done to everyone and hope to see you all again next year.
